Founding story
Shredr was born on the factory floor - not in a venture studio.
Before founding Shredr, Sam Joynson spent years at W. L. Gore & Associates (makers of GORE-TEX), working inside one of the world's most advanced manufacturing operations. He saw first-hand how even a best-in-class manufacturer still relied on paper purchase orders, manual data entry, and disconnected legacy systems across their plants. The technology existed to solve these problems - but nothing was built for operators. Everything on the market was designed for enterprises with seven-figure IT budgets.
He then moved to Microsoft, working on the AI and cloud platforms powering some of the largest digital transformations in the world. The contrast was striking: the Fortune 500 had access to incredible automation tools, while the small and mid-size operators who form the backbone of the global economy were still drowning in paper, spreadsheets, and manual processes. And it was not just factories. The same routine repeats on an airport deicing pad and in a construction site trailer: the day's work goes down on paper, and someone retypes it later so the rest of the operation can see it.
That gap is why Shredr exists. He started the company to bring enterprise-grade AI and automation to the teams who need it most - without the enterprise price tag, the 18-month implementation, or the army of consultants. Same-day setup. Zero disruption. Built for the way operators actually work.
Engineering leadership
Kevin has spent his career building the data infrastructure behind products used by millions of people.
He started out in banking after studying Finance at Santa Clara University, then moved into the Bay Area startup world as data work was still being called analytics. Across Education.com, GREE, and Eventbrite he built the ETL pipelines, fraud models, and analytics backends those teams ran on - at Eventbrite, the data backend used by every analyst in the company.
At Scribd he rose from data scientist to Head of Data Science, leading a team of thirteen across San Francisco and Toronto. There he led the Book Genome Project, applying neural embeddings to identify literary elements inside books and power Scribd's recommendations - the kind of problem where messy, unstructured content has to become structured data before it is worth anything.
Most recently he worked on payments infrastructure at Butter Payments and Basis Theory. He is a named co-inventor on US Patent 12,265,966, covering machine-learning-driven recovery of failed subscription payments - predicting which transactions will succeed and when to retry them.
That is the same problem Shredr solves on the factory floor: taking the messy, manual, and unstructured, and turning it into something a machine can act on.
